In the rapidly evolving landscape of finance and technology, a get together with other friendly nerds has left me exhilarated and brimming with optimism. As a passionate advocate for improving banking and financial services for retail customers (aka you and I), I recently had the privilege of attending an event that brought together a group of crypto enthusiasts from Farcaster. The enthusiastic response from a group of (then) strangers to our vision for Hive left a lasting impression that I’m excited to share – we are onto something here. It also offers a glimpse into what the future of banking might hold, and the demand for meaningful financial innovation.

Existing Banks Need to Watch Out

There comes a time when innovation and progress outshine the comfort of the familiar. Stepping into the world of blockchain as infrastructure for existing financial institutions& products presents us with an opportunity to revolutionize the way we think about banking and our relationship with our bank. Why shouldn’t you, as someone who trusts a bank with your hard-earned money, be empowered with a voice? The event I attended served as a rallying point for a community united in their determination to reshape financial systems – transcending borders, cultures, demographics, and financial goals.

Nerds, Assembleeeee!!!!

Picture this: a room full of nerds (in the most endearing way) excited to talk about the new technology we are all passionate about. The room is pulsating with a collaborative energy. Almost like showing up to the first day of school. Individuals from diverse backgrounds converge with a common goal — to show the world how legitimate blockchain is for countless use cases. Whether it’s used for banking, social media, or gaming – we are going to move our digital lives onchain. The air was charged with excitement as discussions spanned from blockchain's potential, and laughter rang out as we tried to joke about how miserable the markets have been, so we don’t cry. Much like my virtual engagement, this group of people energized me and left me feeling more optimistic about Hive than ever.

What struck me most was the collaborative spirit that permeated the gathering. The visionaries weren't just excited about personal gain; they were excited about the potential to uplift ALL communities together. The vibe was very much a “rising tide lifts all ships” as opposed to a “winner take all” feeling that we typically feel with existing companies. Spanning all industries, we will eliminate intermediaries that drive up costs for us – retail. It was a welcomed reminder that innovation doesn't thrive in isolation but instead flourishes with collaboration. There were even folks messaging me the next morning with more ideas and questions about Hive Finance. How cool is that?!?!?!

Opportunity For Us All To Make Money, Not Only Who the Government 'Permits'

This event was a testament to the potential that lies ahead. We delved into discussions about blockchain's potential to make transactions, business models, and reporting more secure and transparent. It was like peering into a crystal ball that revealed a future where financial inclusivity was no longer gated through arbitrary regulatory hurdles (I’m looking at you, Accredited Investor status) but readily accessible via routes other than having a lot of money already. There is so much opportunity for wealth creation that you and I don’t have access to because the government says we shouldn’t.

With Great Power Comes Great Responsibility

Beyond the shared thrill of contributing to a more democratized future, we were reminded of the responsibility that comes with forging a new path. The very nature of innovation demands a meticulous approach, a commitment to ethical practices, and a drive to mitigate risks for the people using our applications. The enthusiasm was balanced by a collective understanding that the journey ahead won’t be without significant challenges, but it was precisely these challenges that would refine our vision and drive progress – and with Hive I would like to genuinely emphasize... OUR vision. We will need your help to get where we want to go.
